Abbey was originally part of a broad portfolio of caravan brands owned by a company called Cosalt. Cosalt was quite a diverse company and although a big player in the leisure market at the time, they didn't specialise in leisure vehicles and had a marine oriented core.
When Cosalt started to go into decline they sold their leisure vehicle brands to Caravans International. Later when Caravans International decided to focus more on their static caravan production they sold some brands including Abbey to Swift Leisure.
Swift Leisure produced Abbey Caravans from 1992 - 2008 and Abbey caravans produced in the era were as good as any other offering from Swift but tried to keep a little flavour and style from original Abbey products.
The Abbey Brand is still in a discontinued state but....
Gary O'Brien, National Sales Manager for Swift Group Tourers told CaravanTimes: "The Abbey brand is still an integral part of the Swift Group and it may return in some form in the future"
